Strolling through Marina Bay Sands I was stopped by a sales lady from Seacret. Now I usually don’t like to be stopped and I normally quickly move on, but this lady was quite persuasive and charming and perhaps I was in a good mood. I think she quickly spotted what kind of girl I am and she started talking about this easy filing and polishing system for my nails.

After some smooth talking and using all her sales tricks, she got me to buy the polisher and nail set, even though I had no intention on buying anything! But this lady knew just how to talk to me. I’m indeed a low maintenance girl who likes to spend as little time as possible on her nails.

I especially liked their special buffing block, which involves 3 steps to use:

Step 1: Use the blue coarse side of the cube every 4 weeks to smooth your natural nail surface

Step 2: Use the grey soft side of the cube every 2 weeks for a flawless polish

Step 3: Use the white silky side of the cube every 2 weeks to buff to a perfect gloss

At $65 I probably paid too much for this nail care collection which also includes body lotion, cuticle oil and file, but it may save me some trips to the nail salon. I did like the fact that I can get the file replaced at no cost when it has stopped working.

And Charmaine, or Charm as she wishes to be called, put a smile on my face with her indeed charming sales techniques. Seacret should be very glad to have this lady on their team!

How to use beauty deals: some guidelines for customers and providers

I recently came across a post at VivaWoman.net where she asked: Have you bought a beauty coupon deal? The answers are quite surprising. It turns out that many consumers haven’t because they are afraid of the often very aggressive sales tactics or bad quality of the product or service.

As you know, I have personally tried several coupon deals and I have generally been very happy with the products and services I received. So I thought to give some tips here for both providers and consumers on how best to deal with these coupon deals.

For consumers

Here are some points to remember:

Many consumers doubt whether these coupons are actually for real. They often cannot believe the huge discounts given on products and the incredible value they provide. But please bear in mind that for many providers this is a form of advertising. In normal media they would just advertise and pay a flat rate, without getting an email address or a name or any product or service sold. With a deal they often only need to pay the deal organiser (like Groupon) a fee for every deal that gets sold. So it’s a safe way for them to advertise and for each deal that they sell they have a new contact in their database.
Consumers often worry that they will get a bad service. However, this has not been my experience. Please remember that providers offer this deal to attract you as a returning customer. The only way they will be able to do that is through good service.
Don’t be afraid of the hard selling! The easiest way to cope with any of the ‘hard selling’ is to tell yourself to NEVER sign a package deal on the day of the treatment. I never spend more than 5 minutes listening to offers or deals, because very early in the conversation, I make it very clear to them that I never sign up for a package straight away and that I always consider the package at home. If you communicate this in a decisive way, there is really not much more for them to say. In a way it’s good to know what kind of business you are dealing with. If they are too aggressive, this may be an indicator for you not to return.
Never feel guilty for getting a good service or product at such a low price. Remember that businesses entered the transaction voluntarily and it is an opportunity for them to advertise their business.
Deals are a GREAT way to test out a new product or service without having to pay full price. So take advantage of it!

For providers

I have some tips for providers too:

Please realise that many customers have a fear of hard selling. So just tone it down a bit. In my experience hard selling is never a good long-term tactic for your business.
The only way to really grow your business is by offering outstanding service or product quality. Offer us something we will rave about and we will automatically share it with our friends and on the Internet and come back for more.
At all times respect our decision and treat us as valued customers. If your face turns gloomy after consumers reject your offer for a package or a repeat purchase, they will remember this experience and never come back. Worse, they may tell their friends about their negative experience.
On the other hand you can make a really good impression if you ask us genuinely what we thought of your product or treatment. You can offer some brief information about your services by providing us with a brochure or written information. Then leave us with a smile. Consumers will always remember their personal treatment both before and after receiving a product or service.

Marina Bay Sands Shoppes are a paradise of luxury shopping and wonderful beauty places. Have a look at this Hair Boutique that I came accross: Action hair Boutique.

I think this place clearly needs to be discovered yet as it was not so busy inside, but I love the way this place looks. Perhaps it doesn’t help that this place looks more like a shop, rather than a hair salon from the outside?

I personally find it quite important that attention is paid to the design of a hair salon. After all you do spend quite some time inside! No idea about the quality of the hair cuts or hair treatments, but for its decor alone, I thought this hair salon was worth mentioning here.

Escentials at Marina Bay Sands Singapore

I came across this lovely shop recently while I was at the Aesthetic Asia Conference. It’s a lovely laid out shop full of wonderful scents, perfumes, body treatments, but also makeup of various brands.

Some brands include: Stila, By Terry, Annick Goutal, Comme des Garcons, Ren and Jurlique.

I loved the way this shop was laid out.

And look at he dress that the shop attendant is wearing! Proving that this shop pays attention to detail, the lady informed me that the dress was actually the shop ‘uniform’ and designed by local designer Keith Pang. Gotto love that!

This set of displays I would like to have in my own house. Great decoration!
