Plastic surgery singapore

Plastic surgery is a type of procedure that ensures correction of the form and function of specific areas of the body.

History

Plastic surgery techniques were first implemented by physicians in India and this technique was later incorporated by the Arabians and then the westerners. The ancient Greek, Romans, and even Egyptians have been known to perform rhinoplasties and other cosmetic surgeries as well.

Plastic surgery is a broad area of expertise that can be divided into two parts:

Reconstructive surgery

The reconstructive plastic surgery is primarily performed on accident victims and people with abnormalities in body shape and structure. This type of surgery can be used to cure skin burn, facial bone fractures and other abnormalities. Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed to give people a normal look so that they can fit into the society. Some of the other forms of reconstructive surgeries include scar removal, breast reduction, digit surgery, removal of tumors etc.

The plastic surgeon normally utilizes the microsurgical procedure to reconstruct the entire tissue mass by grafting it from another place like skin flaps, bone etc.  Sometimes the plastic surgeons may have to reconstruct the blood vessels network to supply the newly formed structures with blood. Sometimes mastectomy and rhinoplasty is also performed by plastic surgeons.

Cosmetic surgery

This type of surgery can be considered more of an augmentation procedure by which people can enhance their physical features. Cosmetic plastic surgery is becoming increasingly popular and is now one of the most popular surgical procedures of the twenty first century. It is now a full-fledged industry in its own right.

Some of the most common surgeries that are performed under this category are:

  • Abdominoplasty to reshape the abdominal muscles.
  • Mammoplasty to reshape and enhance the size of the breast, although it can also be used for reduction of breast size.
  • Buttock augmentation or enhancement that reshapes the buttock and increases its size.
  • Face lift:  used to tighten the skin around the face.
  • Rhinoplasty: used to reshape the nose.
  • Otoplasty:  used to improve the orientation of the ear by sticking it closer to the head.
  • Cheek lift:  the cheek bone is augmented in order to give a person a stronger jaw line.
