What are oyygen facials?

Oxygen facials are becoming increasingly popular due to superstars like Madonna advocating them, and more and more Singapore beauty professionals are now offering this treatment.

But what exactly is an oxygen facial?

At any oxygen facial the oxygen is compressed and sprayed at high pressure on to the skin. This spray also contains other beneficial active ingredients like nutrients and vitamins. As this combination is applied with high pressure, it finds its way past the skin’s barrier defense system and enters the lower levels of the epidermis.

Advocates will promote the following benefits:

  • This facial opens pores and can help detoxify the skin
  • It can energize and revitalise (dull) skin
  • It can improve the skin glow
  • It has a moisterizing effect for a younger skin
  • It can help lighten the skin

Treatment schedule

Customers are usually advised to have a series of treatments. One treatment is often 30 min and it is often recommended to have 1 treatment per week for several weeks. This can then be followed by monthly touch-ups. Prices vary from $120 to up to $300 per treatment.

Does it really work?

Although oxygen facials are really popular, there are many that feel that oxygen facials don’t really work and that any short-term positive effects on the face are caused by a mild inflammation from the oxygen acting as an irritant. There definitely seems to be an instant improvement of the face as it looks fuller, softer and younger, but any long-term effects are debatable.

Any risks?

As with almost anything there are some risks associated with oxygen facials:

  • Free radicals can increase in your body from too much oxygen use, which can lead to tissue damage.
  • Too much inhalation of aromatherapy oils could lead to droplets being accumulated in the lungs which may lead to pneumonia.
  • Oxygene facials are not recommended for people with certain medial conditions like emphysema, as an excess of oxygen could cause problems to their breathing.
